Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, we are happy to offer a free 30 min video chat to find out if we are a good fit. We'll discuss your specific tax situation and start to put together a gameplan just for you.
We aim to offer inclusive, 'fixed fee' pricing based on the type of return you need. So in most cases the listed fee is what you will pay. Our fee includes one free state return and most forms and credits that apply. In rare circumstances when your return would require additional work, any additional fees will be discussed in advance.
Varsity Tax Prep utilizes the latest technology to ensure a seamless modern tax filing experience. We have a secure client portal to exchange documents and information. Once your return is ready we are also an approved e-file provider so everything is handled in house. In most cases no paper changes hands, all forms are e-filed and your return is posted to the client portal so you can download and save it electronically.
Varsity Tax Prep specializes in working with small business owners that are looking to grow their business and recognize the value in working with a dedicated professional to take on certain challenges that are outside their own expertise. In short, you’d rather be in the gym training your athletes, or out in the community marketing your next event, than stuck sorting through financial documents and figuring out what is or isn’t a write-off. For many individuals and businesses that are just starting out taxes are simple and can easily be handled on your own - but there is always that time trade off. When business, or even individual circumstances, grow more complex the time commitment required to “do it yourself” is just too much, not to mention the feeling of constantly second guessing if you’re doing right or not. At that point the question really becomes not ‘should you work with a professional’ but rather ‘which professional should you work with’.
Being a 100% remote firm with clients nationwide does present some challenges - like being able to meet everyone in person. Using video calls and recording video walk-thrus helps us to see each other ‘face-to-face’, but technology truly has changed the way we work. The days of bringing a box full of receipts to some dark office and watching someone else work are over. We look forward to meeting and talking with you about your business and your specific tax situation when it is convenient for you. Then we’ll do the work of preparing your return, without the inconvenience of needing to be in person to get it done.
Personally we are also looking forward to traveling extensively. We do want to get out and meet our clients and see you in action, we’d love to come check out a practice or see you at your next tournament - but we’ll leave tax work behind.
Jason’s previous experience as a coach and referee provides a unique opportunity for sports related businesses, but his tax expertise applies to everyone. All business owners and even individual taxpayers can benefit from working with us. Our current line-up includes coaches, clubs, leagues, and officials, but also yoga studios, apparel brands, realtors, lifestyle companies, tech companies, and more. Individuals with more complex tax situations are also an important part of what we do. Our first call is always the “Are we a good fit” call, and we will always be honest about how we can help, or recommend alternatives if there is something we think will fit you better.
